Bethel’s Bravest were dispatched Sunday afternoon February 26 at a little before 4pm for a house fire at 13 Blackman Ave. Bethel Engine 5 arrived and reported a fire on the roof of the historic home built in 1760. Engine 5’s crew advanced a hand line thru the front door to the attic. Bethel Tower 1 made the roof and assisted in ventilation and extinguishment. Stony Hill Engine 3 arrived and threw ground ladders to the C side roof to assist Bethel’s crews with extinguishment.
Additional crews provided salvage operations in this 200+ year old home. Damage was limited to the roof area only and the home can be repaired. Mutual aid from Dodgingtown and Brookfield was brought in to provide station coverage at the Bethel and Stony Hill FD’s.
Firefighters were under the command of Bethel Car 1, Chief Ingram. The volunteers fast response and quick knockdown of the fire preserved one of Bethel’s oldest homes which is stated to have been Headquarters for Revolutionary War Generals. Units cleared within 2 hours with no injuries.
